FAQ

We do all the paper work necessary for you to claim back from your medical aid. Most Medical aids pay a portion for the Prosthesis and bras.

Medical aids require a motivational letter from the oncologist or surgeon.

The prosthesis generally last 4-5 year provided it is cared for correctly. They have a 1 year guarantee for any manufacturing faults.

There is a special cleansing lotion that it can be washed with. You can also use any mild hand soap, shower gel or hair shampoo. I you won’t use it on your body; you will not use it on your prosthesis or bras. It is recommended not to use any fabric softeners, washing powders or liquids.

The prosthesis has a certain weight which keeps the alignment and balance of the body. It will give a more natural and even look under clothing.

We recommend a correct fitting non-wire mastectomy bra as it is higher in the centre to hold the prosthesis and it is fully pocketed to keep the prosthesis from shifting around. The wing under the arm is higher for more support and comfort. We do not recommend underwire bras as it can irritate the scars or sensitive skin after treatment and can damage the prosthesis.

It is not necessary unless you had a double (bilateral) mastectomy.

Your prosthesis becomes part of you, so whatever you do your prosthesis does with you. The outer layer of the prosthesis is made of poly urethane membrane that is non-absorbent. It is not recommended to sleep with it

The prosthesis is covered with a poly urethane membrane that is hyper allergenic, however should you puncture or rapture the membrane it will cause the internal silicone to seep through which you can have an allergic reaction to.

It is not recommended as it is sensual to get the correct style, shape and size that will suite your body shape.

The bra back size is probably too big as the main support for the breasts should come from the strap around your body and the cup, not the straps. The straps may be too tight.
